Museums are great reminders of appreciating life through art. Art that has purpose and meaning. Art ensconces all sufferings, joy and experience of the artist. Jaw-dropping artworks that go back to decades of Philippine Art History and flaunt it. An art like Juvenal Sansó’s.

See the paintings that paved way for Modernism
Juvenal is Modernism’s flag bearer for his art expresses his painful experience during the war and used painting as a tool to soothe his trauma. He is also labeled as an expressionist because his art really gives a picture of what’s inside him. The 3-story museum showcases the different styles of Juvenal’s art – oil, ink, doodles, etching, etc – that are now sold to different art enthusiasts.

You get to meet the artist behind it all!
Juvenal Sanso, a Catalonian-born artist spent more than 6 decades perfecting his practice, a long and stellar career that earned him a number of awards including a King’s Cross from the King of Spain. Once in every while, he visits the Museum and authenticates paintings that will make them even more expensive through time. If you are lucky enough, you will have the chance to shake hands with the person who studied under the likes of National Artists Fernando Amorsolo and Guillermo Tolentino. That is why Juvenal is also considered one of the living histories we have today.

Chill at Café Sansó
After walking around the museum, art enthusiasts could also sit down for some drinks and good food at Café Sanso, located just beside the museum. The café serves authentic Spanish delicacies. One of the café’s bestseller is their Callos a la Madrillena. For their pasta, there’s Gambas Linguini. And of course, Spanish cuisine wouldn’t be complete without the Churros. Also, the café turns into a bar at night and serves alcohol. A perfect way to end the trip and unwind.

“You cannot replace the artist, the person behind the art. There must be that personal impact of an irreplaceable human life. That’s what I’m interested in art after all – humanity, felt and expressed by an exceptional person” –Juvenal Sansó. The Millennial Post
