Six people were reported to be injured at a fire that spread along fake documentation stores in Recto that raised the general alarm for fire. Among the 6 injured people was a firefighter and because the fire had gotten so huge, it spread to other areas such as the Manila City Jail wherein a prisoner who is one of the injured people was detained.
The prisoners of the Manila City Jail were forced to flee and take refuge in a nearby chapel until the fire had been cleared up completely. Because the fire was so massive and a general alarm needed to be raised, several firemen came to aid in putting out the fire. Some of these firefighters have fainted from the smoke and heat.
Many of the residents whose homes were affected by the spreading fire tried to help in putting out the fire by dousing flames with buckets of water but these efforts did not help the situation too much.
As a result, they changed their actions from carrying buckets of water and running towards the scene of the fire to carrying belongings while running away from the flames due to the fact that the fire was too much for them too handle and decided instead to try to salvage whatever belongings they can while heading to safer areas.
It is estimated that up to 5000 people lost their homes to the tragic accident. P5 Million worth of damages and around 500 structures also went up in smoke that day.
The fire had not only caused these losses to the residents in the area, but it has affected the travel time in other areas though far away. This was because of all the firetrucks that needed to be parked and that needed to get past traffic to be able to put out the fire. The Millennial Post
