An incumbent Leyte congressman, a security sector party-list representative and a former 15th congress lawmaker was among the 9 Senatorial aspirants who filed on the second day their Certificate of Candidacies (COC) at the Commissions on Elections (Comelec) office in Intramuros, Manila.
Leyte first district Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, 51, was the first who formalized his run for the Senate in the 2016 general elections, arriving with supporters cladded in bright orange and chanting “Malasakit”, the one-word slogan of Romualdez.

Romualdez praised the system imposed by the Comelec as “orderly” and thanked his supporters right after he filed his candidacy, drawing an even louder cheers from them.
Romualdez however, did not immediately left the Comelec office as he waited for vice-presidential aspirant Sen. Ferdinand “Bong Bong” Marcos Jr. to formalize his bid for the May 2016 polls.
Another senatorial aspirant, Samuel Pagdilao, an incumbent Anti-Crime and Terrorism thru Community Involvement & Support (ACT-CIS) party-list representative posted his bid for the next year’ general elections.
The former police general said he was endorsed by the independent tandem of Senators Grace Poe and Francis Escudero and will focus on the peace and order once elected.
“I am offering myself as a candidate for Senate with a platform that represents peace and order, anti-crime, anti-terrorism and all those that are threats to our peace, our tranquility and our stability as a nation,” Pagdilao said.
Pagdilao explained that peace and order and anti-corruption are the “twin” platforms that he would like to push for it would “ensure a peaceful community” and bring progress.
Pagdilao was one of the founders of the Philippine National Police- Special Action Force (SAF) and a member of Philippine Military Academy Class 1979.
Meanwhile, Godofredo Arquiza, 71, a 15th congress and Coalition of Association of Senior Citizens Inc. party-list representative posted his COC for next year's senatorial election.
Arquiza said he is running as an independent candidate and his allies are the senior citizens. He added that the reason why he would be running is because the elderlies does not have a representation in the government.
The former lawmaker stressed that there were no hospitals for senior citizens and no elder abuse law.
“Walang representative eh, kaya ang senior citizens napapabayaan,” he told reporters.
The party-list group of Arquiza was disqualified by the Comelec for various violations of election rules during the 2013 elections, however, the Supreme Court ordered the poll body to immediately proclaim the said party-list.
The main office of the Comelec received COC from six other Senatorial hopefuls, Victor Quijano, Rolando Merano, Rodel Navarro, Ali Shariff, Edwin Salve and last was Raul Barbasa. The Millennial Post.
