The Maynilad Water Services Inc. declared that water service interruptions at 900 barangays of Metro Manila and selected areas in Cavite will start on Sep. 16, Monday, as a preparation for the expected El Niño.
Maynilad warned its consumers about the 7-hour water disruption that will persist in the coming weeks. The reduced water allocation from Angat Dam will affect 56% of the West Zone concession area.
Angat Dam’s allocation in Bulacan was redirected to Metro Manila but will not be enough to prevent the water interruptions, Maynilad representatives said. While the recent monsoon rains helped to replenish water levels in the dam, it was still not enough to support Maynilad’s long term water production.
Affected cities in Metro Manila are Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Manila, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Malabon and Navotas. In Cavite province, water disruptions will also affect the city of Bacoor and Imus.
The shortened water supply will come off during non-peak hours, 9PM to 4AM. At full implementation, the interruptions are expected to last as long as 12 hours.
In line with Maynilad’s alternative plan, the company has refurbished its station tanks and bought additional water tankers to improve its water services.
Meanwhile, Maynilad has also expressed its increase in water tariffs due to its adaptation of Foreign Currency Differential Adjustment (FCDA).
Costumers consuming 10 cubic meters monthly should expect an increase of P0.36 in their monthly bill. Costumers with a 20 cubic meters will now pay an extra P1.37, while 30 cubic meter consumers will get an additional fee of P2.80 in their monthly bill.
Maynilad explained that these changes are due to the devaluation of the Philippine Peso. The fee hike shall take effect on Oct. 1 and is expected to last up until Dec. 31.The Millennial Post
