Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV is a lone wolf gunning for the vice-presidency and he would just “make-do” with what was available to him.
Senator Trillanes filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for Vice President at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) last Wednesday, October 14.
Senator Trillanes filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for Vice President at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) last Wednesday, October 14.
The former Navy officer is the second member of the Nacionalista Party (NP) to file a COC for the position, following Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos who filed last Tuesday. However, in an interview with reporters, he said that he filed his COC as an independent candidate.
Although without a running mate, the Senator said it will not hurt his votes and ratings.
“It is what it is. I wish the situation was more ideal but we just have to make do with this equally,” Trillanes said.
Trillanes said that “Para sa Pagbabago” will be his battle cry as vice president, and when asked about his platform, he said that it remains the same as what their group has been fighting for since 2003.
“The same, the battle for restoration of peace and order and the fight against poverty and corruption,” he said during an interview with reporters.
In the filing of COC, Trillanes was accompanied by his wife Arlene Trillanes alongside fellow Magdalo group members and military officers who were imprisoned with him after they staged the Oakwood Mutiny against the Arroyo administration in 2003.
During the Oakwood Mutiny, more than 300 armed soldiers took over the Oakwood Premier in the Ayala Center, Makati City with the intention of exposing the anomalies in the government.
The soldiers, who were later on called the Magdalo group, demanded the resignation of Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and the implementation of the National Recovery Program which they said was the only solution to the problems in the country.
When asked if he considered to be the running-mate of Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Trillanes simply said no. He also said that there were no talks between the two about a possible alliance.
He added that since he already vowed to support Sen. Grace Poe in her bid to become president, it is no longer possible for him to be Santiago’s running-mate.
Trillanes also said last August that an alliance with presidential candidate Mar Roxas was not going to happen since they do not share the same political views. The Millennial Post
