United Nationalist Alliance’ standard-bearer Vice President Jejomar Binay alongside Gregorio Honasan III filed their Certificate of Candidacy (COC) last Monday, Oct. 12, at Commission on Election’s (COMELEC) main office in Intramuros, Manila past 8 am.
After several invitations sent by VP Binay to his potential running-mates for the upcoming May 2016 polls, including Senators Grace Poe and Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Businessman Manny Pangilinan, only Gringo Honasan, a former leader of Reform the Armed Forces Movement (RAM), rose to his call and formalized BinGo tandem (Binay – Honasan), minutes before filing their COCs.
Binay, who ranked 2nd in the recent Social Weather Station survey held last Sept. 2-5, filed his candidacy as his children accompanied him inside COMELEC main office. He also confirmed that Honasan is his official running mate as he stated “UNA na, BinGo pa,” before entering San Agustin Church in Intramuros.
Honasan, despite not being the first choice of UNA as VP Binay’s wingman, dismissed all questions regarding him being the last option of the opposition party.
"I do not have the luxury of an ego. I do not have a stariray complex," Honasan told reporters,
“I am a good soldier. I am the result of the process that the party went through. So, I will follow the party that I am helping organize, UNA,” he added.
Honasan also explained that the reason why he it took him some time to accept the offer is because he sought after his family’s understanding before affirming his candidacy.
The BinGo tandem, after filing their certificates, veered away from the reporters and immediately left from the office of COMELEC.
Nancy defends brother Junjun; addresses LP members
Sen. Nancy Binay, who was speaking with the media as her father filed his COC defended her brother, suspended Makati Mayor Junjun Binay, from political rivals who supports the mayor’s perpetual disqualification to run for public office.
“Yun nga yung nakakalungkot eh, bakit hindi pa rin nagbabago yung uri ng pulitika, diba dapat ang pinaguusapan natin ay kung ano ang magagawa natin para sa mga kababayan nating naghihirap hindi yung wala ka nang kalaban kasi lahat sila na-technical knock-out na (It’s very saddening why there is still no change in politics, we should be talking about what can we do for our impoverished countrymen and not about our political opponents who are all trying to defeat us through technical knock-out),” she told reporters.
Perpetual disqualification
“A year ago, paulit-ulit na naming sinasabi na there’s an Oplan Stop Nognog at nakikita naman natin na ang main end ay ang mabawasan yung makakalaban nila,” she added pertaining to the recent charges filed against her brother over the allegedly overpriced Makati City Hall Parking II and her father’s recent charges filed by the Ombudsman.
“Kung alin yung mas makakabuti sa ating mga kababayan lalong lalo na sa Makati eh yun ang gagawin namin,” she said over the allegations of Makati Rep. Abigail Binay running for mayoralty to replace Junjun Binay. She said that the family will talk it over dinner as they prioritized the VP’s plans for 2016 elections.
She also reacted on acting Makati Mayor Romulo Peña’s candidacy for Mayoralty in Makati saying that “it’s funny to see that he (Peña) is claiming credit for something he did not event start.” She said.
The senator reiterated that his months as Makati’s mayor do not include him, claiming Junjun Binay’s accomplishments for years.
“Baka trademark yan ng partido niya kung yung ano yung ginagawa nila sa Vice President ay ginagawa nila sa kapatid ko (Maybe that’s his party’s trademark, what they are doing to the Vice President, they are doing it, also with my brother),” she claimed.
Sen. Nancy Binay addresses the Liberal Party as it, allegedly, was behind the attacks on her political party through filing charges.
“For me it is a sign of weakness sa isang partido na supposed to be majority party pero anong ginagawa nila? Through knock-out, unti-unti nilang inuubos ang mga kalaban ng ka-partido nila and it’s not just in Makati, andami naming natatanggap na reports all over the Philipines. Para manalo yung manok nila tinatakot nila yung mga potential candidates na laban sa Liberal Party members,” she exclaimed.
“Is it a sign na walang kakayahan yung mga kandidato nila kaya hindi nila kayang makipagsabayan pagdating sa usapin ng kung ano ba talaga ang magagawa mo (as a candidate)?” she said over the continuous charges and disqualification cases filed against her party members in UNA. The Millennial Post
