Sen. Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos filed his certificate of candidacy for vice president as an independent candidate at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) main office last Tuesday, October 13.
Three days after officially announcing his candidacy, Sen. Marcos remains undecided on who he will be running with in the 2016 elections.
In a press release issued last Oct. 10, the senator said that he decided to run after consulting with Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Although both pledged mutual support, mayor Duterte had already announced that he has backed out of the presidential race.
Sen. Marcos also said that there have been talks between his and vice-president and presidential hopeful Jejomar Binay’s supporters, but the senator said that he declined VP Binay’s offer due to political differences.
The senator was accompanied to the filing by his mother, former first lady Imelda Marcos, and his wife Imee Marcos.
Senator Marcos greeted his supporters who were dressed in red and thanked them for their support. He said that it was a good sign that people were there to support him as early as his filing, and believed that being the seventh to file his candidacy as Vice President was a good omen. The senator however refused to be interviewed afterwards.
As of today, Sen. Bongbong Marcos is yet to announce his running mate, but he had recently posted a picture with Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago on Instagram, possibly hinting a tandem after she announced her intention to file her candidacy for president yesterday with a Vice President in mind.
