"To the ones na tumatangkilik, naniniwala sa ‘Daang Matuwid.”
Those were exactly the words of former Department of ther Interior and Local Government and now the administration’s standard-bearer for the 2016 Elections, Manuel “Mar” Roxas II in his search for his potential running mate.
Almost three months after his declaration, he is still yet to continue the search for ‘the perfect one’. He has wooed Sen. Grace Poe until the latter declared her presidential bid last September 16.
Right now, he is eyeing three potential candidates to complete LP’s tandem towards the ‘Daang Matuwid.’

Vilma-Santos Recto, once an award-winning actress during her time and was hailed as the ‘Star of All Seasons,’ has sacrificed show business in exchange for the mantle of public service. Since her entry into politics in 1998, remaining in power for 15 years now, she has served 3 terms as mayor of Lipa and the governor of Batangas since 2007.
Truly, she was the Star of All Seasons, but the question is will she still continue to shine bright when she runs for a higher position, particularly the Vice Presidency, this coming May? But before anyone was even able to negate her, she has already rejected the offer. She said that she has no plans to run for a postion outside the confines of Batangas.
She owes Batangas that much, having her back ever since she thought of politics, leaving two others as Roxas’ potential VP.
Coming from a family of politicians, Alan Peter Cayetano has already been exposed to politics since his teenage years. He has been called already been called a young achiever, having become a senator at such a young age. Will he be the youngest vice president yet?
Sen. Cayetano admitted once that he has presented himself to LP and NPC as a candidate for president but also considered the vice presidency. Clearly, he is a hopeful for the higher office. But looks like he is actually just the second choice after who seems to be LP’s current favorite.
Leni Robredo, the widow of the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo and a mother of two. She is currently the Congresswoman from the third district of Camarines Sur who just entered the politics last 2013 but continues to make a name for herself.
In her short time in the world of politics, three years as congresswoman of Camarines Sur so far, she was able to pass the charter extension of the Philippine National Railway and the Full Disclosure Bill, while also being a fervent supporter of the Freedom of Information Bill.
Despite her position, she still lives by the simplicity of their family and takes the public transportation whenever she travels to Naga every weekend. Most of all, she values the people, who are encouraging her to go for the position.
I think that the people would want someone like her because she seems to be the perfect mother to her family she continues to nurture on her own. She is her family’s light, and that’s what I think the Philippines need, light. Having her as his partner would make Roxas look like a pillar that the country could lean on.
I am not implying that I would vote for her when the day of election comes nor I am saying that we should imitate her. Technically, she has been who she is right now even before just like any other Filipino.
She still has 14 days to decide if she will accept Roxas’ offer. The day she announces her decision would be one that would pave the way for a whole new image for Philippine elections.
Of course, the 2016 elections won’t end once Roxas chooses his running mate. Rather, it would be a sign of a new beginning and a new choice the Philippines has to consider in the polls. There are two other candidates who seek the presidency and Roxas is just one of them, the search for The Perfect one never ends.
