The Philippine Army Lady Troopers remain undefeated in the Shakey's V-League 12th Season Reinforced Conference after conquering the PLDT Home Ultera Ultra-Fast Hitters in a five-set match held today, Oct. 25, at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
With both teams bolstered by veteran players, the match remained tight most of the game. But in the end, the Lady Troopers came out victorious, scoring 25-23, 23-25, 25-11, 19-25, 15-13.
The Ultra-Fast Hitters began the first set with an early lead (3-8), but after the first technical timeout, the Lady Troopers started to take over (16-15) – a lead that continued until the end of the set.
During the second set, the Lady Troopers took the lead in the first (8-2) and second (16-12) technical timeout. Their unforced errors, however, gave the Ultra-Fast Hitters a come-from-behind set wins.
After their second set loss, the Lady Troopers recharged, stunned the Ultra-Fast Hitters, and owned the third set with a staggering 14-point difference.
In the fourth set, the Ultra-Fast Hitters overwhelmed the Lady Troopers with their numerous attack points, forcing a fifth set.
The fifth set remained unpredictable the whole time. The Lady Troopers earned an early lead (8-3), but the Ultra-Fast Hitters did not give up easily, closing the score to just a 1-point deficit before the Lady Troopers ended the match.
Player of the game was setter, Tina Salak, who had 45 excellent sets. Other top contributors from the winning team include Abigail Marano (18 pts.), Jovelyn Gonzaga (16 pts.), and Honey Royse Tubino (16 pts.).
The other team, on the other hand, was led by Aiza Maizo-Pontillas (19 pts.) and Janine Marciano (12 pts.).
Both squads were previously on a 1-0 win-loss record, but with their second win in the preliminaries, the Lady Troopers now share the top spot with the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons.
The Lady Troopers hope to keep their winning streak as they play against the Philippine Navy Lady Sailors next. The Ultra-Fast Hitters, on the other hand, will try to improve their ranking as they face the Lady Maroons. Both games will be on Oct. 31, Saturday. The Millennial Post
