Gilas Pilipinas overpowered Kuwait, 110-64 to join Group B of the 2015 FIBA Asia Championships last Friday, Sept. 25.
The heat was on during the first few minutes as both teams struggled with each other’s series of outside shots and run-and-guns before Gilas was able to unleash an onslaught that gave them a sizable lead.
The first half of the match witnessed an overwhelmed Kuwait by a rampaging Gilas with a 55-27 scorecard, courtesy of the 44-11 lead and a 9-2 run by the latter at the end of the 2nd quarter while they continue to gain composure later in the match.
The Philippine men’s basketball team rode on the back of Terrence Romeo who posted a career high 19 points, two assists, and two steals. Jayson Castro got 16 points, two rebounds, and an assist, while Calvin Abueva came in with 10 points, 8 rebounds, two assists, and 1 steal.
Abdulrahman Alshammari carried the Kuwaiti squad with 15 points while Abdullah Alsaeid chipped in 13 points.
Gilas Pilipinas is currently at a 2-1 win-loss card following a successful triumph over Hong Kong, 101-50, and a loss to Palestine, 73-75, and will now compete in Group B of the tournament against powerhouses India, defending champion Iran, and Japan on Sunday. The Millennial Post
