The University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers trounced the De La Salle University Green Archers 77-61, in the UAAP Season 78 last Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
While only in the game for 16 minutes due to foul trouble, Kevin Ferrer led the Tigers with a game-high 17 points including three treys. Alongside him were Karim Abdul with 13 points and 13 rebounds and Ed Daquioag with 11 points and three assists.
With Ferrer out during most of the match, the Tigers poured out a total of 11 three-pointers in the entire game.
The Archers were left behind by 14 points in the second-half because of a tight defense by the fiery Tigers. In the fourth quarter, the Archers failed to catch up and eventually lost, ending the game with a score of 77-61.
Jeron Teng and Josh Torralba headed the Archers during the game scoring 13 and 12, respectively.
The Tigers’ victory over Archers led them to a 5-1 win-loss record, sharing the lead with the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, while the Archers fell to 3-3.
The Archers will try to bounce back on Sunday, Oct. 4 as they face ADMU Blue Eagles at the MOA Arena. The Tigers will aim to finish the first round at 6-1 by squaring off against the UE Red Warriors next Wednesday, Oct. 7 at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
