Non-government organizations (NGOs) handed out over 150 pairs of reading glasses and conducted anti-rabies vaccinations in a city-wide assistance program in Marikina, last Saturday, Sept. 12.
The Rotary Club of Marikina Central (RC-MC) in a joint project with the Inner Wheel Club of Marikina (IWC-MC) hosted the “Libre Salamin” project for local residents ages 40 and above, along with an Anti-Rabies campaign for the said residents’ pets.
Residents flocked to the site where they were consulted by the members of the club. Free eye check-ups were also conducted to determine the patient’s suitable reading glasses.
Meanwhile, pet owners have also brought their dogs within the vicinity for the free vaccination provided by the clubs.
“We are doing this in line with our organization’s advocacy, as well as to help people who may have not thought that they had such disability,” said IWC President Sherrylyn Santos at the Concepcion Dos barangay hall, where the said project was held.
Santos also mentioned that the RC-MC and IWC-MC both “…Transfer from barangay to barangay,” in order to cater to the needs of all Marikina City residents.
The Libre Salamin program and Anti-Rabies campaign is hosted by the RC-MC and IWC-MC every Saturday for the month of May to September, and is currently on their 13th week. The Millennial Post
